Update on Maddie and Jack

January 9th, 2009 No comments

We had our first Vet visit last Saturday and they both are in good condition. They had round worms but the medication we were given seems to have cleared them up. Jack weighed 4.5 lbs. and Maddie weighed 3.8 lbs. The doc also noted that they are NOT a Lab mix. He indicated that they seem to be a Pug mix; which really is more likely than a Lab for various physical reasons. Both pups tails curl up like a pug and Maddie’s nose is seemingly “pushed-in” like a Pug. two different Doc evaluations agreed Pug.

It was also Dodgers time to get updated shots as well. He was perfectly healthy and doing fine they said. He weighed 12 lbs.

Welcome Maddie and Jack to our family.

We’ll we took a plunge the other day and acquired two Jack Russell / ??? mix puppies! Two! I wanted to get another dog so Dodger would not be so lonely, but MY WIFE of all people said, “why not get two of them?” 😯 . The owner brought all 5 puppies she had to the house for us to look at. They had one female, which I really wanted. She was adorable as were all the puppies. We also fell in love with one male that was white with no spots.

Looking at them it seems to me the father is a Labrador Retriever. They have large paws and look some-what like a retriever. The ears go down instead of up like a J.R. I’ll have pics up soon.

Doesn’t play nice with other dogs

September 4th, 2007 No comments

We took Dodger to our daughters track meet the other day and confirmed that he doesn’t get along with other animals. We were told by the shelter that he did not get along with small children and other dogs/cats. The Coaches Lab was led over to where Dodger and I were sitting and Dodger began to go nuts. It took all I had to hold him back. His heart rate went up and he was growling and barking.

When he has been around my sisters Chihuahua Chico, he simply ignored him. But there were a couple of smaller dogs and Dodger would growl and bark at them also. One family walked by and I did not notice as soon as Dodger did but a very little girl not even paying attention to Dodger set him off.

Of course I knew he did not get along with the squirrels in our back yard as he chases them every chance he gets. We’ll be changing his leash out from the small retractable device to a sturdy nylon if we take him back out again.

Our new Dodger

March 6th, 2007 No comments

Well, it’s been a month since we picked up Dodger and we are loving him. He is such a “firecracker!” He loves being outdoors and runs around the back yard like a rabbit. Chases any animal he comes in contact with in the back yard. One night before going to bed I let him out and did not notice an opossum on the back patio. Before I knew it Dodger chased him over our fence.

He’s not afraid of anything. He is so playful. His favorite food so far is Mighty Dog’s porter-house steak and gravy. He also likes there beef product. He has urinated on the carpet a few times but that’s when we don’t let him out enough. He also gets into anything we leave laying around. Overall he is a very good dog and is so happy when one of us comes in. We’ve meant to have pics posted by now and have taken some with our camera phones but none of us have the ability to send them anywhere. Pics will be up soon.

I’m looking for a new dog – DONE

February 6th, 2007 No comments

Well, my wife and I picked up Dodger yesterday in Vicksburg from the Southern Paws Rescue. He was all ready to go when we got there and anxious to get out where all the dogs around him were tall Standard Poodles. He is very shy and quite. He is in love with my wife and follows her everywhere. Can’t say I blame him, I try to do the same thing.
