We haven’t been able to do any work on the motor/car at all since last week. The weather was too cold and I was out of commission for a couple of days being ill. With the water pump off we’ve learned it needs to be replaced. We hope to get the head off this coming weekend.

Wes and I have decided not to remove the motor at this time. We started removing the front parts of the engine last night after putting all the engine/transmission bolts back in place. We removed the fan, water pump pulley, water pump, etc. We’ll hopefully continue tonight to see what else we can remove to get the timing chain removed so we can remove the cylinder head.

Wes and I were able to get the motor completely ready for removal. All connections, hoses, etc. have been removed. Wes was able to acquire an engine stand from a friend at school. Thanks to Mike Townsend for letting us borrow it.

I drove my father-in-law’s truck to Performance Motorsports to borrow an engine hoist, but it would not fit in the back of the truck very well without scratching it up pretty bad. I’m going to see if my Dad will let me borrow his again. It might be a full-size bed. Can’t remember.

Wes and I spent a little time on the engine Tuesday night. We were attempting to remove the head without removing too much else. That failed. Now our plan is to go ahead and remove the engine entirely to make it easier to work on. A friend of Wes has an engine stand and said we could borrow it. That will help us some so we do not have to purchase one, I hope!

I noticed one of the local used car dealers in town has a 1995 Nissan 240 and is asking $3600 for it. It seems like it is in good shape from the road. I’m going to stop by later and take a better look at it.

Wes and I spent a little time on the engine this weekend. We removed the valve cover only to find a mess underneath. The water that we knew was in the oil had corroded the rocker arms with surface rust. I believe they can simply be cleaned, but we are taking the head off with the valves intact to have it looked at. A little disappointing. We also noticed that while removing the exhaust manifold and valve cover, the bolts were not tight on either. Surprised it stayed together.

Hopefully once we get the head off we’ll be able to determine if we have a bad gasket or crack in the block.

We were successful in installing the replacement window. It looks much better. Pics up soon.
